The Modern Kom Society

The Kom culture is in permanent contact with other cultures in the global village. Kom sons and daughters who are supposed to be the prime consumers of this culture are spread all over the world and they confront and interact with these cultures. Many of them may not have the opportunity to be in direct contact with the Kom culture as it is practised in this traditional society. Residing in Kom today is not at all any guarantee for some persons that there will be mastery of this culture, given the numerous exigencies of the modern society. The citizens of the modern Kom society, resident at home and elsewhere as well as all other persons having interests in cultural issues could find this master piece “The Modern Kom Society (culture, customs and traditions) just appropriate for their needs. This publication presents the Kom culture as it is today, given the evolution that has been registered in the course of time. It is an interesting document for any human being irrespective of origin.

 

Joseph Nsom, hails from SHO - Kom in Boyo Division, in the North West Region of Cameroon. He spent the first six years of primary education in the Catholic Primary School Sho, and the final year (class seven) in the Government Primary School. He attended the Government Technical College Ombe, after which he gained admission into CCAST Bambili where he obtained the GCE Advanced Level. Through a competitive entrance examination, he was admitted into the Regional School of Statistics (ISSEA Yaounde). After obtaining a diploma in statistics from the Regional School of Statistics (ISSEA Yaoundé), Joseph Nsom gained admission into the Yaoundé University where he obtained a first degree in Economics in 1 986. In 1 994, he obtained a post graduate diploma (Maîtrise) in Economics from the University of Yaoundé II, SOA. He later on gained a United Nations Fellowship which enabled him to obtain a Masters Degree in Population and Sustainable Development from the University of Botswana in 1 997. He is presently employed in the Ministry of the Economy - Central Bureau of the Census and Population Studies (BUCREP) Yaoundé. He is constantly engaged in research activities, including assistance in Research Designs and Data Analysis. Other publications by Joseph Nsom include: Essentials of Statistics and Probability, Mastering Modern Economics and Ordinary Level Economics.
